This document is a picture with 4 different sides of Pocahontas showing different perceptions of her personality throughout history. Some believe she was the just a typical Indian, some had her as what seemed to be very classy and somewhat to the looks of a European. While others had the idea that she was a savage.
This also develops a sense that depending on where the historians stood on their information and mind set, their perspective on the way they write about history can change. How they viewed natives back then and how they view them now is meerly based on the stories and mental images we that have been sent down. Natalie M. This website gives information of not only on how Anne Hutchinson came to America and got started in her religious perification but it also gives in detail why the religous leaders were afraid of her and what they did about it. They took her to court but even though the evidence pointed against her they were still able to get a conviction and force her out.
This shows that not only was the church a a very important figure in all of the colonies but they had absolute control over everybody. They exciled anybody no matter who they were, they took control over everybody and everything. |
This document is a journal entry of, William Byrd, a well respected man in terms of government. He lived the high life of having servants and going to elaborate dinner parties. The journal had been kept in secret which held in his most innermost thoughts. Everything from when his son was born to what he ate for breakfast. Along the lines of food, he'd mention how he would go to glorious feasts and eat beef and drink loads of alcohol. In addition, he stated how he kissed one and felt one of his servants. In both situations he knows he did something wrong, but he admits that he didn't say his prayers that night to be confessed but he has faith that God will forgive him anyways due to his blessings he was sent down before. His faith in God is also shown as he says that he prays for God's protection for his son and for his sick friend to recover.
This document is significant in that it establishes that the highest and richest people had many faults and they justified their acts by their belief in God saying that if God's grace is willing then they are alright. The rich took advantage of their wealth and their elevated status ; this also shows how arrogant the rich were, unwilling to apologize and yet they expected their actions to be forgiven. Kelsey O. |
